Women?s Swim & Dive Complete MAC Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State women's swim and dive team finished in eighth place with 170 points after Saturday's final events at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Eastern Michigan.
The combination of sophomores Audrey Rodawig and Jessica Extine with seniors Jordan VanWinkle and Carlena Magley rounded out the MAC Championships in the 400 freestyle relay event. The team finished sixth with a new Ball State season best time of 3:26.14.
Rodawig also earned eighth in her 100 freestyle individual event with a time of 51.16 in the finals. Rodawig set a new season best in the prelims when she swam 50.48 for a fifth place finish. Her previous time of 52.89 came against the final regular season meet against Toledo.
The Cardinals had two participants in the 1650 free, including VanWinkle and senior Leighann Mattson who turned in times of 17:18.68 and 17:39.79, respectively. Mattson's time crushed her previous season best of 17:48.84 which was set early on at the Eastern Michigan Invitational.
In the 200 fly, sophomore Katie Horn touched the wall at 2:04.90, while freshman Traci Muszalski clocked a 2:05.71. Horn and Muszalski's prelim times of 2:03.70 and 2:05.43, respectively, marked new season bests while the pair finished the event in 14th and 16th overall in finals.
Over the course of the championship, Ball State earned 17 top-16 finishes, including 12 individuals. The team also had six top-eight finishes, while Rodawig held the lone top-eight individual finish.
Defending MAC Champion Akron earned its second title in a row with a final score of 650. They were tailed by host school Eastern Michigan at 555 and Bowling Green at 507.
Looking ahead, the Cardinals will send divers Madie Zirzow and Brittany Penn to compete at the NCAA Diving Zones in Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, March 12.
