Gymnasts Suffer Loss at Bowling Green
February 09, 2015 | Gymnastics
Ball State's gymnastics team suffered a 195.500 to 193.875 loss at Bowling Green in Mid-American Conference action Sunday.
"The team competed well today, we still have some skills to clean up and we need to focus on all the small details, but we are showing the consistency that we want to have for this season," Ball State head coach Joanna Saleem said. "It is important we can go out on the competition floor week after week and put solid gymnastics in front of the judges. Overall the team had a rough performance last week, and I am really proud of how they responded this week in practice and today in competition. We have faced a lot of adversity so far this season and these ladies have really started to show their competitive spirit."
Ball State's best event was the beam with Kayla Beckler and Jessica Leko tying for first with 9.850 marks. Sarah Ebeyer and Denasiha Christian tied for third with identical marks of 9.825. The Cardinals tied the school record with a team score of 49.125 on the event.
"It was exciting to see the beam team come together and perform up to expectations," Saleem said. "The past few meets we got off track on this event and I know everyone was pleased to see such a solid performance from the entire line-up. We had top performers from several of our beam competitors. We tied the school record on this event with a 49.125, which is a great way to end a meet after a shaky start."
On the vault, Ebeyer and Erin Patchey led the team and tied for third with scores of 9.800. Beckler tied for fourth on the uneven bars with a 9.750, while Brooklyn Schumacher was eighth with a 9.700.
Patchey tied for second in the floor with a 9.825, while Ebeyer was fourth with a 9.800 mark.
Beckler placed second in the all-around with a 38.375 mark.
The Cardinals return home Friday for a 7 p.m. meet vs. Western Michigan in their Think Pink and Alumni Meet. Ball State competes in Irving Gym of the Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center and admission is free for all fans.
