Gymnastics Team Suffers Loss at Southern Utah
February 03, 2015 | Gymnastics
Ball State's gymnastics team suffered a 194.800 to 190.450 loss at Southern Utah Monday night.
"We had trouble finding any momentum during the competition," Ball State head coach Joanna Saleem said. "For the first time this season we started the meet on bars, and it just seemed like the group didn't settle into the rhythm of the competition. We had a decent performance on vault, but again we just were not as sharp and solid as we have been throughout this season. We had a lot of little mistakes on floor which was reflected in our scores and beam was just not acceptable as a group. We have to do better than this, we didn't do our job out on the competition floor tonight. We have to head back to the gym and fix all the little things that piled up on us."
Ball State's Denasiha Christian won the floor with a 9.875 and tied for third on the vault with a 9.75. Erin Patchey also tied for third on the vault with a 9.75, while Baylee Bell tied for second on the beam with a 9.70 mark.
"Denasiha put another solid performance on the competition floor on both vault and floor," Saleem said. "This is the second meet in a row she has won floor and placed in the top three on vault. She has been an important part of our lineup on two events. Baylee is a freshman who has been one of the solid members of our beam lineup. This is the second meet in a row she has placed second and the third meet where she has been in the top three on this event. She is doing a wonderful job competing on this event."
Brooklyn Schumacher was the Cardinals top performer on the bars with a 9.775, while Miranda Kuehl placed sixth on the beam with a 9.400.
Ball State will travel to Bowling Green Sunday in its return to Mid-American Conference action for a 2 p.m. The Cardinals will return to Irving Gym in the Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center for its Think Pink and Alumni Meet Feb. 13 vs. Western Michigan at 7 p.m.
