Swim & Dive Rounds Out Day Two Of MAC Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State women's swim and dive team sits in eighth place with 79 points after Thursday's events at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Eastern Michigan.
The Cardinals divers found success on the one-meter when junior Madie Zirzow and sophomore Quinn Bixler finished in 11th and 12th, respectively. Bixler's score of 253.10 was nearly a season best, though fell to her high score of 253.80 set at Ball State's final home meet of the season against Miami. Zirzow landed her 11th place finish in the finals with a score of 256.35.
The Cardinals rounded out the second day of competition with a seventh place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Seniors Carlena Magley and Jordan VanWinkle, and sophomores Jessica Extine and Audrey Rodawig combined to set a new Cardinals season best time of 1:33.81, crushing the previous season best of the Ball State swim team of 1:38.03.
Defending MAC Champion Akron leads the competition heading into day three of MAC Championships with a score of 242. They are tailed by host school Eastern Michigan at 221 and the University of Buffalo at 211.
The Cardinals return to Jones Natatorium tomorrow morning for preliminary sessions starting at 11 a.m., followed final swims at 7 p.m.
