Women?s Swim & Dive Begins Three-Day Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio - The Ball State women's swimming and diving team commenced action at the 22nd annual Miami Invitational Thursday afternoon. In the first of three days of competition, the Cardinals participated in five events and posted a team score of 237.5.
To open the action, the combination of Amanda Kedzierski, Liz Madison, Courtney Mudd and Jessica Extine posted a 1:37.32 final in the 200 freestyle relay for a seventh place finish. They were narrowly followed by Audrey Mayer, Andrea Richter, Mason Dahman and Lauren Elston who marked a 1:38.81 time for ninth in the same event.
In the 500 freestyle, freshman Madison and sophomore Traci Muszalski touched the wall in times of 5:08.58 and 5:11.89, respectively. The event was then followed up by the 200 IM, in which junior Kimberly Scott earned a 2:08.27 time, while senior Sydney Harris (2:10.02), Mudd (2:09.46) and Kedzierski (2:11.40) also participated in the race.
Extine was the lone Cardinal to partake in the 50 freestyle, and earned the highest individual finish of the day for Ball State when she tied Miami's Natalie Rohr for 16th with a 23.91 final.
Rounding out the first day of competition in Oxford was done when Mudd, Kedzierski, Katie Horn and Extine marked a 3:56.74 time in the 400 medley relay. Jenna Zitkus, Harris, Maryn Meldrum and Madison were close behind in the event and touched the wall in 3:57.26.
After the first five events of the three day Invitational, Denison University dominates action in the pool with a team score of 1244. Miami sits in second with 1009.5 points, followed by Emory University who has earned 966.5 points. The Cardinals sit between Toledo with 462 points, and Urbana who holds 120.5 points.
The Ball State women's swimmers will continue action at the Miami Invitational tomorrow, while the women's divers will begin competition in conjunction with the Ball State men's swimming and diving program at the Eastern Michigan Invitational from Dec. 4-5.
