December 02, 2015 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Five Ball State football players came away with all-league honors for the 2015 season, the Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday morning. Linebacker Sean Wiggins and defensive lineman Joshua Posley each came away with first team accolades. Offensive lineman Jacob Richard (second team) as well as wide receivers Jordan Williams (second) and KeVonn Mabon (third) were honored by the MAC as well.
Wiggins, in his first season as a starter, finished second on the team and 14th in the league in tackles (95). The native of Mint Hill, North Carolina reached double figure tackles in four contests and posted nine stops in four others. One of his more impressive games came at Eastern Michigan on Sept. 19 when the junior notched interceptions on EMU's final two drives to help the Cardinals hold on for a 28-17 victory.
Posley was a spark to the Ball State defensive line after playing the 2012 and 2013 seasons for Cincinnati. The redshirt junior from Indianapolis, Indiana piled up a team-high 9.0 tackles for loss to go along with 2.5 sacks. Posley's six quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles also ranked first on the squad. Against No. 17 Northwestern on Sept. 26, Posley came away with a personal-high eight stops and 1.5 tackles for loss.
This was the third consecutive year that Richard earned all-league honors. Hailing from Weston, Connecticut, Richard started the final 37 games of his collegiate career at the center position and served the 2015 season as a team captain.
Williams concluded his Ball State collegiate career ranked fourth in program history in receptions (200) and receiving yards (2,723). The native of Indianapolis, Indiana is tied for third in the school annals with 24 touchdown catches. As a senior, Williams led the team and ranked sixth in the MAC in receptions (72) and receiving yards (920). This was also Williams' third straight year on the All-MAC team.
Mabon was the final Cardinal to make this year's list. He was on the third team as both a wide receiver and kick returner. Mabon notched a team season-high 150 yards receiving in the win over UMass on Oct. 31. A few weeks later, the native of St. Louis, Missouri hauled in 10 catches for 139 yards and a score at Ohio. As a kick returner, Mabon averaged 27.2 yards per return, which ranked 16th nationally. He returned a fourth quarter kick 89 yards for a touchdown against Central Michigan on Oct. 24.
Ball State finished the 2015 season 3-9 overall, but is slated to return six starters on offense and nine starters on defense next fall.
