Ball State Football Adds Three Mid-Year Student-Athletes
December 18, 2015 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State football team has announced that three student-athletes will be joining the team in the spring semester. Junior college transfers Reggie McGee and John Swisher have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Cardinals. Meanwhile, newcomer Chris Crumb is graduating high school early and is expected to enroll at Ball State as a true freshman in January.
“We are pleased to welcome these three young men to the football program and the University community,” football head coach Pete Lembo said. “Our defensive front should benefit greatly this spring from the talent and work ethic that John, Reggie and Chris will bring to the position group. We are anxious to get them on campus and acclimated to life at Ball State when the spring semester begins in January. I am confident that they will fit in well with our returning players.”
McGee, hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, played the past two years for Hartnell College in Salinas, California. The 6-2, 230-pound defensive end recorded 52 tackles, including a program-record 15 sacks, in 2015 to help the Panthers finish 10-1 overall. McGee posted at least one sack in 10 of 11 games this fall. As a prepster at Our Lady of Good Counsel High, McGee helped the Falcons win three consecutive conference championships. Good Counsel went 32-3 in McGee's three years on the varsity squad.
Swisher is a 6-2, 277-pound defensive tackle who competed at Iowa Western Community College the previous two seasons. The native of Des Moines, Iowa earned Defensive MVP honors at the 2015 Graphic Edge Bowl, where Iowa Western defeated Georgia Military, 20-6. The Reivers held Georgia Military to minus-one yard rushing in the victory. Swisher also earned first team all-conference and honorable mention NJCAA All-America accolades in 2015. As a prepster, Swisher set Dowling Catholic High's single-season sack record (20) as a senior and earned first team all-state honors.
Chris Crumb just completed his high school senior season in the fall. The 6-1, 260-pound defensive lineman totaled 136 tackles, 29 tackles for loss and 15 sacks as a senior at Olentangy High in Lewis Center, Ohio. Crumb was a four-year varsity letter winner in football and earned the conference co-player of the year award as well as Division I first team all-state honors in 2015. He was a 2014 state qualifier in wrestling and earned second place in the heavyweight bracket at the 2014 state wrestling championships.
All three players were captains of their respective high school teams.
