November 02, 2015 | Football
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ball State football player Darian Green was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week Monday morning thanks to his standout performance in the Cardinals' 20-10 win over UMass this past weekend.
The sophomore running back and kick returner produced one of the game's most pivotal plays at the start of the second half. Green took the opening kick of the second half 85 yards to put Ball State in prime scoring position against the Minutemen. Three plays later, freshman quarterback Riley Neal found senior Jordan Williams in the back of the end zone to put Ball State in front, 17-3.
The Cardinals rank 12th nationally in kickoff returns this season, averaging 25.34 yards per return. One week ago, junior wide receiver KeVonn Mabon returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown against Central Michigan.
Western Michigan quarterback Zach Terrell and Central Michigan defensive lineman Blake Serpa were the other West Division award winners this week.
Ball State (3-6, 2-3 MAC) has a quick turnaround this week. The Cardinals play a Thursday night game at Western Michigan. The nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
