All-Access: Jordan Williams Steps Up
October 08, 2015 | Football
Senior wide receiver Jordan Williams is the leader at his position, with an NFL body and All-MAC accolades to back it up. But his last two games have been maybe his two most important.
Williams burst onto the scene as a true freshman in 2012. Recruited out of North Central High School in Indianapolis, Williams played mostly on special teams as a rookie, overshadowed by his classmate KeVonn Mabon as far as new receivers go. But Williams had a breakout spring that year, followed by a breakout fall in 2013. As a sophomore he caught 75 passes for more than 1,000 yards. Named all-conference, Williams had arrived.
Now a senior, Williams is the leader of a corps that got off to an admittedly slow start this season. The Cardinals dropped too many passes or didn't win one-on-one battles on the outside. Head coach Pete Lembo and his offensive staff challenged the recievers to do better. Williams took it to heart.
Two weeks ago Jordan answered the bell when he put up 133 yards and two touchdowns against Northwestern, the No. 1 scoring defense in the nation. He became the fifth wideout since the start of last season with multipe touchdowns against a No. 1 rated D. Williams followed that up with a seven catch, 100-yard outing against Toledo last week, streaking for a 51-yard touchdown to boot.
Ball State All-Access caught up with Williams along with some of his teammates and coaches to find out more about what's awoken Ball State's sleeping giant on the outside.
The Cardinals are next in action at Northern Illinois on Saturday at 2:30pm CST. Coverage airs on 104.1 WLBC and ESPN 3.
