Ball State Baseball Cruises to Exhibition Win
October 02, 2015 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – On a very blustery Friday afternoon at Ball Diamond, the Ball State baseball team eased its way to a 15-0 victory over the Ontario Blue Jays in a 12-inning exhibition contest.
“Just to play someone other than yourself in the fall is really nice,” head coach Rich Maloney said. “When you practice as hard as we do and you're going through the grind … to be able to play someone else helps to reenergize your battery. It was also a good way to show off our new facility to our fans.”
Ball State utilized 11 pitchers in scripted fashion and allowed just five hits. Junior Zach Plesac pitched the first two innings and struck out two batters. At one point, Cardinal pitchers retired 23 consecutive Blue Jays.
Six Ball State batters recorded multiple hits including junior Alex Call, who finished 3-for-5 with a double, two stolen bases, an RBI and two runs scored. The highlight of the game came in the ninth inning. Senior Nick Hollowell cleared the bases with a pinch-hit triple to the left center field fence.
