MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's swimming and diving program will open the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to participate in the Indiana Intercollegiate, hosted by Purdue.
With nine schools in attendance, the event will include ten swimming events as well as both one- and three-meter diving.
Last year at the Indiana Intercollegiate, the Cardinals finished second of 11 participating teams, and tallied a total of 336.5 points with ten top-five finishes.
The Ball State women's swimming and diving team held its annual Red and White Intrasquad meet at the Lewellen Aquatic Center last weekend to unofficially kick off the 2015-16 season, in which the Red Team came out on top with 120 points, while the White Team registered a score of 103.
Standout sophomore Amanda Kedzierski (Irwin, Penn./Hempfield Area) led the red team with two first place finishes, including the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Kedzierski also teamed up with Andrea Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City), Morgan Brebberman (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) and Maryn Meldrum (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central) to open the meet with a top finish in the 200 medley relay.
White Team captain Madie Zirzow (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) topped the three-meter diving competition. Prior to teaming up with Hannah Cressman (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) and Courtney Mudd (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) to close out the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay, team members Kimberly Scott (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) led the 200 individual medley, and Jessica Extine (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) won the 50 freestyle.
Looking ahead, the women's swimming and diving team will have a busy upcoming weekend on the road, where it will take on Akron and Toledo on Oct. 23, followed by Buffalo and McMaster on Oct. 24.
