Inside Lamont McPhatter's 91 Snaps
October 15, 2015 | Football
Ball State freshman safety Lamont McPhatter made his first collegiate start Saturday at Northern Illinois. He played all 91 snaps.
Pressed into duty because of a rash of injuries accross the secondary, McPhatter filled in for both Dedrick Cromartie and Terin Solomon. Usually just the team's nickel back, McPhatter rose to the occasion, garnering praise from head coach Pete Lembo.
McPhatter, who hails from outside Pittsburgh, PA, is currently ninth on the team in tackles and second in passes defended. He forced a fumble against Northwestern. All of this coming after he practiced just twice last year before getting injured and then again getting hurt this fall camp. McPhatter pushed through and has found himself a home in the backfield.
Ball State All-Access catches up with the defensive back, his teammates and coaches to find out more about his 'debut' in DeKalb this past Saturday.
The Cardinals football team is back in action this Saturday against Georgia State at 3pm. Tickets are available at 888-BSU-Ticket or by browsing on BallStateSports.com.
