Women's Swim & Dive Sign Six Newcomers for 2015-16

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's swim and dive program has signed six new participants to the 2015-16 freshmen class with National Letters of Intent, including Audrey Mayer (Munster, Ind./Munster), Mason Dahman (Highlands Ranch, Co./Thunder Ridge), Mikayla Dostall (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick), Taylor Miles (Holland, Ind./Southridge), Lauren Elston (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown), and Meaghan Mahoney (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) according to head coach Kristy Castillo.
All signees are in the process of their senior seasons and are to join the Cardinals for the 2015-16 season.
Mayer enters her senior year at Munster High School specializing in the 100 back and 200 IM, with times of 58.90 and 2:13.50, respectively. She is currently serving as the team's co-captain after being a state qualifier in both the 100 back and 200 medley relay where she placed 19th overall her junior year. Mayer was named to first team All-Conference her junior year after earning second team her sophomore year. Her junior year she was also awarded the team backstroke award and was a sectional finalist in the 100 back, where she placed second, and the 200 IM where she placed fifth. Mayer and the Munster High School swim team have held the Northwest Crossroad Conference title since 2008. Mayer's older brother Adam swam for Western Kentucky University.
Dahman enters her senior season at Thunder Ridge High School holding a 3.7 GPA and specializing in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.46. She was named to the Continental League All-League team after establishing team records in the 100 breast, 200 medley relay, and 200 free relay. Of Dahman's junior year, she was a state qualifier, All-League, state finalist, sectional finalist and league champion in the 100 breast. Dahman's father Michael was a diver at Fort Lewis.
Dostall enters her senior year at Brunswick High School with All-Scholastic academic honors and specializing in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.12. She also competes in the 50 back, 100 free, and 50 free. Dostall was an Ohio state qualifier her junior year, finishing 24th after placing first at sectionals, being the first sectional champion in school history. Throughout her high school career, Dostall was a district qualifier all three years, ultimately placing fourth her junior year.
Miles enters her senior season holding a 3.96 GPA at Southridge High School, while specializing in the 200 IM (2:14.18) and 100 Fly (58.70). She is an academic award recipient for the last four years, ranked seventh in her class, and a National Honor Society member. Miles has been named to first team All-Conference four times, is a six-time Pocket Athletic Conference individual champion, and was on the 2013-14 PAC championship team. She has established a school record in the 400 freestyle relay while slating the IHSAA sectional champion title five times, along with being a five-time IHSAA state qualifier. Miles' older sister Mallory Miles is a six-time record holder and Mid-American Conference champion in her time swimming for Ball State.
Elston enters her senior year at Yorktown High School with a 3.6 GPA, while specializing in the 200 free and 100 fly with times of 1:54.48 and 58.83, respectively. She has been named Hoosier Heritage All-Conference three years running, established a school record in the 200 medley relay her freshman year, and was conference champions with her team both her freshman and sophomore year. Elston was a state qualifier where she finished 21st in the 200 free her junior year, was the sectional runner-up in the 100 fly, a sectional champion with her team relay, named All-American in the 200 medley relay, and was named Yorktown swim and dive Most Valuable Player her junior season. A multisport athlete, Elston also runs cross country and track for Yorktown High School. Elston's older sister Heather is currently a Ball State women's swim and dive manager.
Mahoney is a three-year letter winner under head coach Darrick Thomas at Carmel High School. She specializes in the breaststroke and IM, posting times in the 100 breast (1:05.38), 200 breast (2:25.52) and 200 IM (2:12.13) her junior year. Mahoney finished 15th at the IHSAA state meet last year in the 100 breast. Her team at Carmel High school has held 30 straight sectional team titles, 28 consecutive state titles, along with 2 consecutive national championships.
The 2014-15 women's swimming and diving team will continue their season when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind. on Friday, Jan. 9 to take on IUPUI and Xavier at 6 p.m.
