WBB Earns 72-55 MAC Road Win At Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – The Ball State women's basketball team earned a 72-55 Mid-American Conference road victory at Miami Wednesday night in Millett Hall. With the win the Cardinals improve their overall record to 10-9 and 6-2 in league action while Miami falls to 3-16 on the year and 0-8 in MAC play.
Ball State's defense limited the RedHawks to a 35.3 shooting mark in the game, the Cardinals also scored 22 points off of Miami's 22 miscues.
Jill Morrison led all scorers with an 18-point performance while also leading Ball State defensively with five rebounds. Nathalie Fontaine added 13-points to the victory and Moriah Monaco ended the night with 11.
The Cardinals carried its first half momentum into the second half building their largest lead of the game, a 30-point (59-29) cushion at the 13:02 mark which came off of a layup from Fontaine. Miami would end the game with a 26-13 run to come within 17-points but the Cardinals would win the contest, 72-55.
Ball State jumped out to an early 14-4 advantage over Miami with 13 minutes left in the first half after baskets from Fontaine,Monaco, Shelbie Justice, Morrison and Frannie Frazier.
The Cardinals still led by 13 (26-13) after a layup from Shelby Merder at the 6:08 mark. After that, Ball State's stellar defense held the RedHawks to only five points over the next four minutes of play. The Cardinals closed the half with an 18-4 run to give Ball State the 44-17 halftime lead over Miami.
Ball State had its second best first half shooting performance of the season after shooting 51.6 percent from the field. At the half, Morrison led the Cardinals with 13-points after shooting 4-for-5 from the field which included a 3-for-4 performance from 3-point range.
The Ball State women's basketball team continues Mid-American Conference action Saturday at 2 p.m. against Northern Illinois in Worthen Arena.
