
Men?s Swim & Dive Snags Three Event Wins At Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Ball State men's swimming & diving team completed the Butler Invitational sixth on Sunday afternoon with a final team score of 292.5. In the co-ed invite, Ball State captured three event wins and marked nine top-five finishes on the day.
Senior Joseph Morris snagged two of the three individual event wins for the Cardinals after finishing first in the 100 breast with a 56.57 time, and in the 200 breast at 2:05.91. He rounded out the six-team competition with a second place finish in the 200 IM, clocking in a 1:54.73 time, narrowly behind Saint Louis' Austin Nguyenphu who turned in a 1:54.71 for the top spot.
Junior Cole Smith rounded out the Ball State event wins when he was first to touch the wall at 46.27 in the 100 freestyle event. Smith also went on to cinch second in the 50 free (21.23), and fifth in the 400 free relay by combining with Austin Green, Neal Fennig, and JD Middleton for a 3:10.74 recorded time.
Sophomore Tanner Barton closed out the top-three finishes for the Cardinals when he marked a 1:55.73 time in the 200 fly for second place, in addition to his fourth place finish in the 100 fly (52.10).
Freshman Isaac Walling snatched first in the Invite rankings this afternoon after posting a 16:41.74 in the 1650 freestyle. He was joined in the mile swim by Aaron O'Neil, who turned in a 17:17.20 finish.
Southern Illinois ultimately took first in the men's division of the Invitational after putting up a team score of 571.166.
The Ball State men's swimming and diving team will round out Mid-American Conference and regular season action when they travel to Oxford, Ohio on Friday, Feb. 7 to compete against Miami at 1 p.m.
