September 20, 2014 | Women's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. – After a one-year hiatus, the Cardinal Classic returns for the Ball State women's golf team at The Players Club in Yorktown.
The 36-hole tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday with a shotgun start both days at 9 a.m. Live scoring is available throughout the event at birdiefire.com.
It is a large field as Ball State welcomes 15 other teams, including six fellow Mid-American Conference programs. Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Grand Valley State, IPFW, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, Rend Lake, Valparaiso, Western Illinois and Western Michigan will all be competing, while Indiana is sending individuals.
Ball State has won the Cardinal Classic three of the 12 times it has been contested, including the most recent time in the fall of 2012. The Cardinals enter this year's tournament coming off a ninth-place finish at Louisville's home event last week.
Allison Lindley has led Ball State in both of its tournaments this fall and tied for 14th place at Louisville with a career-best 54-hole score of 226 (+10). She owns two top-20 results and a 76.00 scoring average.
Jenna Hague, the most veteran member of a young Ball State lineup, owns a pair of top-10 finishes in two career starts at the Cardinal Classic. The three-time All-MAC selection tied for first at the 2012 event before finishing as runner-up in a playoff.
Ball State's lineup will also feature Kayla Adamson and Kelsey Sear for the third straight tournament, while Mary Ellen Romero will make her second straight appearance as part of the lineup.
The Cardinals will also have four players competing as individuals: Karley Dobis, Meghan McDougall, Morgan Nadaline and Brenna Obergfell.
Ball State hosted the Cardinal Classic each year from the 2001-02 season through the 2012-13 campaign. The event came off the schedule for one season when the Cardinals were invited to play last year in the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
Western Michigan has won the tournament more than any team with four championships, while Ball State and Eastern Michigan have each won it three times.
Former Ball State golfer Rachael Pruett will be back at The Players Club this week. Pruett, who was the medalist at the 2010 Cardinal Classic, now serves as the associate head coach for Cleveland State.
