September 14, 2014 | Field Hockey
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Ball State (3-2) field hockey team fell in overtime 3-2 to Ohio State (2-3) Sunday afternoon.
The Buckeyes took an early lead with a pair of goals from freshman Annabel Sams scoring in just the seventh and eighth minute.
Junior Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa/Warwick) opened the Ball State scoring with a tipped in shot off of a penalty corner from junior Natalie Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Merinda Morley (University City, Mo./University City) tied the game at two in the 59th minute to bring the game to overtime.
“Today was tough. We started the game a little slower than I would have liked, but we were able to pick it up right before the half,” Ball State field hockey head coach Beth Maddox said. “It's about doing the little things right and we need to be a bit more consistent. I'm excited to get ready for Indiana. Should be a great match up!”
Junior Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) tallied 5 saves for a 0.625 save percentage. Ohio State's Peanut Johnson snuck in a shot off of a turnover to get past Henley 3:31 into the overtime.
The Ball State field hockey team will play their home opener Wednesday, Sept. 17, when they take on Indiana at 4 p.m. on the Ball State Turf Field at the Briner Sports Complex.
