May 06, 2014 | Softball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - For the second straight week, and third time this season, Ball State softball senior first baseman Taylor Rager (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week.
A five time career MAC West Division Player of the Week selection, Rager helped the Cardinals clinch the 2014 MAC regular season title and the No. 1 overall seed in this year's MAC Softball Championship by batting .500 (6-for-12) with three home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored and a 1.333 slugging percentage.
“Taylor had another outstanding week,” Ball State head coach Tyra Perry said. “Her effort last week went a long way in helping us clinch the MAC regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament. She continues to be locked in at the plate, coming up with big hit after big hit. She also continues to be a rock on defense.”
With her three home runs last week, Rager upped her career total to 38 which is tied for second in program history with Amanda Montalto (2009-2012). Rager collected her 57th career double in the opener versus Eastern Michigan (April 3), moving into another tie for second on BSU's career charts with Montalto. She also drew three walks on the week to become the program record holder for career walks at 115, which also ranks third in league annals.
Rager and the Ball State softball team return to action Wednesday, when they open play in the 2014 MAC Softball Championships with a 1:30 pm contest versus No. 8 seed Miami at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
