
Track & Field Finishes Second At Miami Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio - - Led by three first-place efforts from senior Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville), the Ball State outdoor track & field team placed second among the 10 teams competing at this weekend's Miami Invitational at George L. Rider Track in Oxford, Ohio.
Ball State's student-athletes finished the second day of the two-day meet with 22 career-best performances, including 10 individual top three finishes. Including Friday's hammer throw and Saturday's relay events, the Cardinals collected 13 overall top three finishes at the 29th annual running of the Miami Invitational.
The host RedHawks won the meet with 264 total points, followed by the Cardinals (163), IPFW (71), Xavier (66), Butler (50), Cedarville (40), Ohio Dominican (17), IUPUI (16), Otterbein (9) and Shawnee State (4).
Individually, Lange paced the Cardinals with a pair of first-place finishes to account for 20 points. She won the 200m dash with a career-best time of 25.27, while tying her career-best time of 57.40 to earn the individual title in the 400m dash.
Junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) also scored 20 individual points for Ball State, including a first-place effort in the long jump in which she posted her second-straight Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships automatic qualifying mark with a leap of 5.84m. Crawford also placed second in the 100m dash with a career-best time of 12.55, while earning seventh in the 200m dash with a career-best effort of 26.28.
Lange and Crawford would also combine with freshman Olivia Ashba (Ellettsville, Ind./Edgewood) and Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) to take home top billing in the 4x100m relay with a clocking of 48.71, earning Ball State 10 more points.
Rounding out Ball State's individual event winners was sophomore Zenée Gadson (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro), who took home top honors in the triple jump at 11.22m.
The Ball State outdoor track & field team returns to action Friday, when it hosts IPFW in the Cardinal Invitational which is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at University Track.
