Baseball's Plesac Named to Preseason All-America Team
December 22, 2014 | Baseball
Zach Plesac, a sophomore pitcher for the Ball State baseball team in 2015, has been named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Second Team as selected by Collegiate Baseball.
“Zach is a talented pitcher with a power arm,” Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said. “He is highly competitive, very athletic and determined to be his best. His best days are ahead of him and we are looking forward to the 2015 season.”
Plesac, who was named the Collegiate Baseball National Freshman Pitcher of the Year in 2014, is the only student-athlete from a Mid-American Conference school on any of the three All-America teams. The 2014 MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year, Plesac was 12-2 with six saves for the Cardinals last season. He tallied a 2.11 earned-run average and ranked fourth in the nation in pitching victories. A three-time MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week, Plesac struck out 67 batters in 85.1 innings pitched in 2014.
Nationally, Plesac was also named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-America First Team, the Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team and the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-America squad.
Plesac helped Ball State to a 39-18 overall record, a 22-4 MAC mark, the MAC Regular-Season Championship and a MAC West Division title. The Cardinals will open the 2015 season Feb. 13 vs. Kentucky at the UNC-Wilmington Buffalo Wild Wings Battle @ the Beach. Ball State will face the host Feb. 14 and Richmond Feb. 15.
