November 25, 2014 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Sophomore guard Jill Morrison of the Ball State women's basketball team has earned Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
This is the second straight week the Cardinals have won MAC Weekly honors. Junior Nathalie Fontaine won the award last week.
Morrison tallied 17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in the Cardinals' 76-70 mid-week victory over Evansville, Wednesday night in Worthen Arena. It was Morrison's first double-double of her career. She also nailed five from behind the arc that game.
The Cardinals then played their first road game of the season at No. 12 Louisville Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center. Morrison led Ball State in scoring with a 20-point showing. BSU played close to the nationally ranked Cardinals despite its loss. Morrison hit two clutch baskets, one in the first half to make the score 26-21 and then again at the start of the second stanza to bring Ball State within two (40-38).
Morrison averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for the week. She also had 10 assists and four steals. She had eight three point baskets and shot 90 percent from the charity stripe.
The Ball State women's basketball team will host the 2014 Ball State Federal Credit Union Thanksgiving Classic Saturday and Sunday in Worthen Arena. The first game begins Saturday at noon when Jackson State faces Duquesne. The Cardinals are slated to play Murray State at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday's consolation game will also be at noon, and tipoff for the championship game will be 2:30 p.m.
