Ball State tallied a 45-30 home win over Eastern Michigan Saturday in the final home contest of the year for the Cardinals...Ball State improved to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the Mid-American Conference...The 45 points were the most scored by the Cardinals this season.
The Cardinals are 15-5 in their last 20 MAC games . . . Three of Ball State's seven losses this year have been by seven points or fewer . . . The Cardinals have scored 291 points this season to rank as the ninth highest scoring team in the school's history.
Ball State has generated 17 turnovers in the past five games -- nine interceptions and eight fumbles . . . The Cardinals forced three turnovers vs. Eastern Michigan, two at Massachusetts and vs. Northern Illinois plus five turnovers vs. Akron and at Central Michigan . . . Jahwan Edwards has set Ball State's career records for rushing yards (4,393), total TDs (49), touchdowns rushing (49), rushing attempts (856) and points (294) . . . He ranks second with 17 100-yard rushing games and follows only all-time leader Marcus Merriweather (19).
Senior placekicker Scott Secor has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2014 Lou Groza Award, which goes to the nation's most outstanding placekicker . . . He is the only student-athlete from the Mid-American Conference listed among the 20 semifinalists.
Ball State ranks 20th in the nation in red zone defense, having allowed opponents to score on only 75.0 percent of trips inside the 20-yard line.
The Cardinals rank 11th in the nation in fewest penalties per game (4.27), 12th for fewest penalties (47), 27th for fewest penalty yards (464) and 25th in the nation for fewest penalty yards per game (42.18) . . . Ball State ranks No. 1 in the MAC in all four of those categories.
