- Ball State hosts Big Ten foe Purdue for its 2014-15 season and home opener, Friday in Worthen Arena at 7 p.m. This marks the first time the Cardinals have hosted a Big Ten opponent to start the season since 2010-11 when Ball State hosted Indiana, which resulted in an 81-66 loss. This also marks the second-straight year the Cardinals have opened up against the Boilermakers. On Nov. 10, 2013, Ball State suffered a 63-57 loss in West Lafayette, Ind.
- Both teams started their seasons off with exhibition games. For the second straight season, the Ball State women's basketball team eclipsed the 100-point mark in its 116-29 exhibition game victory over Oakland City Nov. 4 in Worthen Arena. Six women's basketball players finished with double figures, led by sophomore center Renee Bennett with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Purdue got their 2014-15 season underway Sunday, Nov. 9 when the Boilermakers defeated Findlay University, 82-25, in exhibition action. Senior Whitney Bays paced the Boilermakes with 21 and and 11 rebounds.
- Friday's game against Purdue will mark the 22nd time in program history the two schools have met with the Boilermakers leading the all-time series 16-5. The last time the Cardinals defeated Purdue was December, 13, 1979, by a score of 63-53 in Muncie, Ind.
- The Cardinals have not won their season opener since the 2006-07 season, under the direction of Tracy Roller, when Ball State earned a 62-58 victory at Big Ten foe Michigan, Nov. 13, 2006.
- Before the start of the Purdue game the Ball State women's basketball team will unveil its 2014 WNIT Banner. The Cardinals have now participated in the WNIT five times in school history--2002, 2003, 2007, 2013 and 2014.
