2014 Ball State Homecoming Celebration
• Ball State will be celebrating its 88th Homecoming Game and will honor the 1989 football team on its 25th anniversary . . . The 1989 squad won the Mid-American Conference Championship and competed in the California Raisin Bowl.
• The Cardinals are 53-32-2 all-time in Homecoming Games and have won their last two Homecoming tilts -- 30-24 over Western Michigan in overtime in 2012 and 27-24 over Kent State last season.
• In addition, Ball State is having Homecoming celebrations this week for the alumni members of the men's basketball and men's golf teams.
Ball State Football Quick Facts
Ball State suffered a 33-24 loss at Army last Saturday in a game that featured 142 yards rushing and two touchdowns by Jahwan Edwards plus Ozzie Mann's 18-of-26 passing for 173 yards and one TD . . . Michael Ayers led the Cardinals with a career high 14 tackles plus recovered one fumble.
Ball State ranks 15th in the nation in red zone defense, having allowed opponents to score on only 69.6 percent of trips inside the 20-yard line, including a touchdown in only 12-of-23 trips in the red zone . . . The Cardinals limited Big Ten Conference foe Iowa to only three scores in the Hawkeyes' six trips inside the red zone.
The Cardinals rank 18th in the nation for fewest penalties (24), 20th in the nation in fewest penalties per game (4.8), 22nd nationally for fewest penalty yards (219) and 26th in the NCAA for fewest penalty yards per game (43.8).
Ball State is 17-6 in its last 23 regular season games and competed in the GoDaddy Bowl after the 2013 season to mark back-to-back bowl appearances for only the second time in the school's history . . . The only other time Ball State has played in back-to-back bowls was after the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
