Ball State tallied a 32-29 win at Central Michigan Saturday to improve to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in Mid-American Conference games . . . The Cardinals are 13-3 in their past 16 MAC contests . . . The win at CMU was Ball State's fifth straight victory over the Chippewas and its fourth straight win in Mount Pleasant, Mich., in the series.
Ball State moved up to 17th in the nation in turnover margin after forcing a season high five turnovers at Central Michigan . . . The Cardinals registered two interceptions and forced three fumbles against the Chippewas . . . The five turnovers were the most created by Ball State since the Cardinals had five vs. Western Michigan in the season finale in 2009.
Ball State has 12 takeaways on the season, including 10 in the past four games . . . The Cardinals are +.86 in turnover margin this year . . . Ball State is ninth in the NCAA in fewest turnovers lost with six -- fumbles lost (4), interceptions (2) . . . With only two interceptions this season, the Cardinals rank fifth in the nation in fewest passes intercepted.
Ball State ranks 12th in the nation in red zone defense, having allowed opponents to score on only 71 percent of trips inside the 20-yard line, including a touchdown in only 9-of-22 trips in the red zone.
The Cardinals rank 16th in the nation for fewest penalties per game (4.71), 20th in the nation for fewest penalty yards per game (42.71), 23rd nationally for fewest penalties (33) and 26th in the NCAA for fewest penalty yards (299).
Ball State is 18-7 in its last 25 regular season games and competed in the GoDaddy Bowl after the 2013 season to mark back-to-back bowl appearances for only the second time in the school's history . . . Senior running back Jahwan Edwards rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns at Central Michigan and became Ball State's career rushing leader . . . Edwards now has 4,013 career rushing yards and moved past Marcus Merriweather, who tallied 4,002 career rushing yards from 1999-2002.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Milas has made two career starts and has passed for 524 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions . . . He made his first collegiate appearance and passed for 326 yards and four touchdowns against Western Michigan . . . The four TD passes matched the most ever by a Ball State quarterback in his starting debut . . . Nate Davis was the most recent to accomplish the feat when he did it against Northern Illinois in 2006 . . . The 326 yards passing by Milas in the Western Michigan game marked the most ever by a Ball State freshman in a single game . . . Milas started his second career game at Central Michigan and threw for 198 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.
Senior placekicker Scott Secor matched his career high with four field goals at Central Michigan, including a career long 55-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the game to lift the Cardinals to the victory . . . He also connected on field goals of 39, 37 and 20 yards vs. the Chippewas.
