The Cardinals Nest
- Head Coach Brady Sallee is in his second season at the helm of the Ball State women's basketball team, leading the Cardinals to a 23-23 overall record during his tenure. He now owns a 159-132 career head coaching record, including his 136-109 mark in eight seasons at Eastern Illinois.

- Sallee helped Ball State post one of the most dramatic turnarounds in Mid-American Conference history a year ago as the Cardinals earned the No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament with a 12-4 league mark. Ball State improved eight games from its 4-12 MAC mark in 2011-12, which ties as the biggest MAC turnaround in the last 20 years. Sallee also became just the second coach in program history to start MAC play 8-1 in their first season.
- Ball State was selected to finish second in the MAC West Division preseason poll. This is the Cardinals highest ranking in the MAC preseason poll since the 2008-09 season, when Ball State was picked to finish first.
- Kent State enters the contest with a 3-10 overall record and a 0-2 Mid-American Conference mark. The Golden Flashes have lost five straight since Dec. 8 when the Golden Flashes suffered a 56-55 loss at home against Georgia State. Kent State's three wins came against Eastern Kentucky in overtime (75-74), Stephen F. Austin (54-52) Dec. 1 and Niagra (69-46) Dec. 4.
- The last time the Cardinals lost their Mid-American Conference home opener was a 86-83 loss to Miami in 1998-99 under the direction of Robyn Markey. Since then Ball State has defeated Marshall (100-77, 2000-01), Northern Illinois (74-71, 2002-03), Marshall (71-63, 2003-04), Toledo (80-59, 2006-07), Eastern Michigan (62-55, 2008-09), Western Michigan (70-55, 2009-10), Eastern Michigan (54-51, 2011-12) and Miami (62-59, 2012-13).
