Follow Gilbert At Scotiabank Canadian Open

MUNCIE, Ind. - - After a day off for travel, Ball State softball's Jennifer Gilbert (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) and Team Canada return to action tonight (July 16) with the start of the Canadian Open Fastpitch Women's International Championship.
The seven-day tournament, which runs from July 16-22, will be played in Surrey, British Columbia, and feature a six-team round robin schedule, followed by a playoff round and finally a medal round.
In addition to the Canadian National Team, the United States, Japan, Australia, Venezuela and the California A's will compete in the event.
Team Canada opens play at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT this evening with a game versus the California A's.
At last week's General Tire World Cup of Softball played in Oklahoma City, Okla., the Canadian National team posted a 3-2 record with wins over Puerto Rico, Australia and eventual champion Japan.
Canada's starting right fielder in all five games, Gilbert posted a .308 (4-for-13) batting average in the WCOS, leading the Canadians with four RBI, while also scoring a run. Gilbert also drove in the eventual game-winning run with a first-inning RBI double in the team's 2-0 victory over Australia during round robin play.
