June 25, 2013 | Football
Ball State's football team, under the direction of third-year head coach Pete Lembo, was selected as the 10th most entertaining team to watch in 2013 in a calculation by SBNation.com.
The College Football Entertainment Index used by SBNation.com took aspects of a football game that most people find fun and entertaining and ranked the Cardinals as the 10th best to watch in 2013. Oregon was picked No. 1, followed by Arizona, Texas A&M, Clemson, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Nebraska, Baylor and UCLA.
The study ranked the Football Bowl Subdivision teams from 1-124 using a formula of scoring offense, scoring defense, total points per game, margin of victory/defeat and then rewarded teams that played in close, high scoring games and ran a lot of offensive plays.
Oregon led the nation with a 166 CFBEI, while Ball State's 230 was the best of the Mid-American Conference schools. Northern Illinois was the closest MAC team to the Cardinals with a ranking of 28th, while Toledo was 29th.
Ball State managed a 9-4 overall record last season and competed in the St. Petersburg Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl. The Cardinals open the 2013 season Thurs., Aug. 29, at home vs. Illinois State at 7 p.m.
