April 11, 2013 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. – Patrick Elliott of the Ball State men's tennis team was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Wednesday for the first time in his career.
“Patrick definitely performed at a high level last week winning in singles and doubles against Notre Dame and Northern Illinois,” said Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards. “Patrick has been a very consistent winner all year and it is nice to see him rewarded with this honor.”
Elliott went 2-0 in singles action last week after pulling off the 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 defeat over No. 27 Notre Dame's Michael Moore in non-conference action Monday. He then closed out the week with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Northern Illinois' Max Phillips Saturday helping the Cardinals sweep the Huskies for the 7-0 MAC win.
Elliott also paired up with Austin Sansone against the Fighting Irish pulling off the 8-6 defeat over Matt Dooley and Ryan Bandy at the No. 3 position. The doubles win over Notre Dame helped the Cardinals take the point from the Irish. At No. 1 doubles Elliott and Ray Leonard took down Northern Illinois' Max Phillips and Axel Lagerlof 8-1. Elliott has not lost a singles match since March 17 and leads the team with an overall dual mark of 14-4.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action Saturday at home against Western Michigan. The match will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center with first serve at 1 p.m.
