Morrison Scores 17 In Loss To No. 7 Louisville

MUNCIE, Ind. – Freshman guard Jill Morrison led the Ball State women's basketball team in scoring with a 17-point performance in the Cardinals 105-67 loss to Louisville, the nation's seventh ranked team, Tuesday night in Worthen Arena.
In the first half Louisville started the game off with a 22-4 run to take control of the game early and remain that way for the full 40 minutes. Louisville managed a 68 percent shooting mark from the field and forced Ball State into 14 turnovers in the first half to take a commanding 60-29 lead at the break.
Ball State would score its first field goal of the game at the 13:28 mark off of a layup from sophomore forward Nathalie Fontaine. With 12:51 on the clock, senior guard Brandy Woody scored under the basket to make it an 18-point ball game (24-6) but the Cardinals were unable to get any closer than that the remainder of the half.
In the second half, Ball State's defense was able to limit Louisville to only a 51 percent shooting mark from the field, while improving its shooting percentage to 46 percent. Ball State was able to reduce the Louisville advantage and loss the second stanza by a 45-38 margin.
Ball State was held to a 41.7 shooting percentage for the game and trailed the entire contest, while Louisville managed a 59.7 shooting percentage. Louisville won the glass out-rebounding the Cardinals 42-to-27.
Jill Morrison led Ball State with 17 points, including three from three point range, plus added two assists. Fontaine managed 14 points and a team high six rebounds plus added three assists in 33 minutes of action.
Ball State fell to 3-6 on the season, while Louisville improved to 11-1 on the year.
Ball State heads back to the road for its final two games of 2013 when the Cardinals travel to Northern Kentucky Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. tipoff and then will face in-state rival IPFW in the Athletics Center, Dec. 29 at 4:30 p.m.
