Ball State improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a 38-17 win at Western Michigan . . . The Cardinals have now won five straight games and 13 of their past 14 regular season contests.
The victory was the Cardinals' ninth straight MAC win, which is the third longest streak in school history . . . Ball State's longest MAC winning streak was 12 games in the 1977-78 seasons.
Ball State is off to a 4-0 start in MAC games for the first time since the 2008 season and for only the fourth time since joining the league in 1975.
Ball State is 7-1, marking just the sixth start of 7-1 or better in school history and only the fourth since the 1977 season.
Ball State has reached bowl eligibility for a third straight season . . . The last time the Cardinals won at least six games in three straight seasons came when the team reached the mark in four straight campaigns from 1988-91.
The Cardinals have scored 313 points in their first eight games this season -- Illinois State (51), Army (40), North Texas (27), Eastern Michigan (51), Toledo (31), Virginia (48), Kent State (27) and Western Michigan (38) . . . The 313 points are the most in school history in the first eight games of a season . . . With four regular season games remaining, Ball State's 313 points rank as the sixth highest single-season total in school history . . . The Cardinals need 14 points to move into the fifth highest single-season scoring total in school history . . . The school standard for points in a year is 489 in 2008.
Ball State ranks No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference and 13th in the country in passing offense (331.8) plus is No. 2 in the MAC and 23rd in the nation in scoring offense (39.1).
The Cardinals rank No. 2 in the nation in turnovers gained (20) and fourth in the MAC in scoring defense (23.5) . . . Ball State leads the country with 12 fumble recoveries this year and is 32nd in the latest NCAA statistics in turnover margin (+0.6).
