What's On Tap: Ball State women's basketball travels to Northern Illinois in its first Mid-American Conference road trip of the season Sunday. BSU is looking to stay on the winning track as it opened league action Thursday night in Worthen Arena with a 62-59 victory against Miami. Northern Illinois is coming off of a 60-53 conference loss at Buffalo Thursday. NIU currently owns a 5-9 overall record with non-conference wins over Davidson (64-61), Morehead State (76-46), Loyola (67-63), Eastern Illinois (48-38) and Norfolk State (69-38).
About Northern Illinois: Northern Illinois has not won a game since Dec. 29 when it defeated Norfolk State. The Huskies have lost two games in a row which were against Valparaiso (54-49) and Buffalo. With an overall mark of 5-9 and a 0-1 Mid-American Conference record, NIU ranks fifth in the MAC West. The Huskies are led by Amanda Corral who is averaging 13.0 points per game.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Brady Sallee is in his first season at Ball State. Sallee's career coaching record is 140-119 and he is 4-10 with the Cardinals. He was named the 11th head women's basketball coach in Ball State history May 10. During his tenure at Eastern Illinois, Sallee posted a 136-109 career record. He led the Panthers to the institution's first-ever Ohio Valley Conference title during the 2009-10 campaign. In 2011-12, Eastern Illinois was 22-9 overall, posted a 13-3 OVC mark and competed in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Kathi Bennett, a veteran collegiate head coach who has guided three programs to eight NCAA Tournaments and five conference championships while posting a career winning percentage of .605 (323-211), was named head women's basketball coach at Northern Illinois University, May 18 2010. Bennett owns an overall career mark of 32-43 at Northern Illinois while having a 13-20 Mid-American Conference record.
