First Fall Camp Football Practice Completed
August 02, 2012 | Football
Under the direction of second-year head football coach Pete Lembo, the Ball State football team completed its first practice of 2012 Fall Camp Wednesday.
"It is great to be out here with the guys again," Lembo says. "They came out with a lot of enthusiasm and focus. The younger guys blended in real well for their first practice at the college level. It was great to see some of the older guys take leadership on the field and help the younger guys. That was really neat to see."
All practices are open to the public and the media.
Ball State, which will host its annual Fan Jam Aug. 11, will open the season with a 7 p.m. Mid-American Conference game against Eastern Michigan Aug. 30.
"As a coach, you always see some things you don't like and some things you do like," Ball State defensive coordinator Jay Bateman says. "The one thing I will say is I think we are pretty fast. I think we are more athletic than we have been."
The Cardinals posted a 6-6 overall record last season, including a 27-20 season-opening victory over Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the home of the National Football League's Indianapolis Colts.
