
Baseball Drops Series Finale At Missouri, 9-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Ball State baseball team dropped the rubber match of the three-game series to Big 12 foe Missouri 9-2 Sunday afternoon at Taylor Stadium. The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-6 on the season while the Tigers improve to 4-5 on the season.
Missouri opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning against sophomore right-hander T.J. Weir (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo). The Tigers manufactured a run with an infield single, a stolen base and a run-scoring single. Missouri broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning as it plated four runs on two hits as the Tigers took advantage of three walks to end Weir's afternoon.
The Cardinals scored their only runs of the afternoon in the top of the eighth inning against the Missouri bullpen. Junior Miles Moeller (Phoenix, Ariz./Glendale CC) led off the inning with a walk and came home to score as senior Mitch Widau (Richmond, Ind./Richmond) tripled into center field. Junior Blake Beemer (Dayton, Ind./Northmont) drove the Cardinals' second run as he ripped a run-scoring single up the middle to make it a 5-2 contest.
Missouri ended any threat of a Ball State comeback in the bottom half of the eighth inning as it scored four runs on four hits and took advantage of a pair of walk to make it a 9-2 contest.
Weir (0-2) was charged with the loss as he allowed five runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. Missouri starter Blake Holovach (1-0) picked up the victory as he worked 5.0 shutout innings and limited the Cardinals to three hits while striking out eight batters.
The Cardinals return to action Wednesday evening as they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for a midweek contest with SEC foe Tennessee. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
