Men?s S&D Finishes Sixth at MAC Championships

OXFORD, Ohio - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team finished the three-day event with 229 points to place sixth among the seven-team field at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday at Miami's at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
Eastern Michigan won the meet with 693.5 points and was followed by Buffalo (674.5), Southern Illinois (596), Missouri State (558), host Miami (472), BSU and Evansville (98).
Ball State's top events of the final day came in the 200 fly and 200 breast as seniors Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) claimed the program-records with a third-place finish (1:49.30) and 11th-place performance of 2:02.45, respectively.
In the 200 back, junior swimmer Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) added a top-10 performance with a time of 1:50.67.
The fifth-place 200 medley relay, consisting of Weber, McNeeley, Krupa and senior Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial) tied a program record of 1:31.19 set March 6, 1998 by Tony Eubank, Ben Christoffel, Andy Boyce and Matt Pentland.
In other relay events, junior Nicholas Stevens (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle), joined sophomore Tucker Hale (Fishers, Ind./Fishers), freshman Andrew Lamb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and sophomore Michael Oaks (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) on the seventh-place 800 freestyle relay (6:54.97).
The Cardinals concluded the league meet with the sixth-place 400 freestyle relay as Oaks, Krupa, Weber and Schroeder combined to clock in at 3:03.58. Also, for his performance during the league meet, Krupa earned All-MAC Second Team honors.

DAY TWO
OXFORD, Ohio – The Ball State men's swimming & diving team remains in sixth place among the seven teams after the second day of the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships Friday, hosted by Miami at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
After day two, Eastern Michigan leads the meet with 383 points, followed by Buffalo (366), Southern Illinois (365), Missouri State (286), host Miami (252), BSU (107) and Evansville (40).
Senior swimmer Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) returned to his winning ways to help lead the Cardinals as he posted a season-best and second-best individual time in program history in the 100 fly, clocking in at 49.24 for sixth-place.
Senior Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) then tallied a school record in the 100 breast with an eighth-place finish (56.53), while sophomore Joseph Morris (South Bend, Ind./Clay) clocked in at 56.76 for 11th-place, the third-best individual time in program history for the event.
On the 3-meter diving board preliminaries, sophomore Jake Brehmer (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) recorded a score of 251.65 for 15th-place in the event.

DAY ONE
OXFORD, Ohio - The Ball State men's swimming and diving team ranks sixth among seven teams after the first day of the 2012 Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Miami at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
The Cardinals finished the opening day of the three-day meet with 72 points. Eastern Michigan is first with 236 points and is followed by Southern Illinois (216), Buffalo (171), host Miami (144.5), Missouri State (149), BSU and Evansville (26).
Senior Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and junior Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) posted phenomenal performances in the 200 IM preliminaries as Weber finished in 14th-place (1:52.05), while Krupa tallied a 15th-place finish (1:52.15).
Krupa and Weber both returned in the finals to tally the second-best individual time in program history (1:50.95) and third-best individual time in program history, respectively.
In the relay events, Weber combined with sophomore Michael Oaks (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community), sophomore Joseph Morris (South Bend, Ind./Clay) and senior Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial) on the seventh-place 200 freestyle relay (1:24.52).
On the record-setting fifth-place 400 medley relay, senior Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) joined Weber, Krupa and Schroeder, to clock in at 3:20.51.
On the 1-meter diving board, sophomore Jake Brehmer (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) led the Cardinals with a 14th-place score of 267.90.
