CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - - Despite limiting the Trojans to just four hits, the Ball State softball team suffered a 9-4 setback to Troy to open play in the 2012 Frost Classic Inspired by Memorial which is being hosted by UT-Chattanooga.
Sophomore first baseman Taylor Rager (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeaster) continued her solid offensive play, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

After senior pitcher Audrey Workman (Wickenburg, Ariz./Wickenburg) struck out the final three batters of the top first, the Cardinals bats came to life in the bottom of the frame starting with a one-out double through the right side from sophomore left fielder Jennifer Gilbert (McKinney, Texas/McKinney).

Sophomore third baseman Audrey Bickel (Munster, Ind./Andrean) push across two more runs with a single up the middle, moving the score to 3-0. Junior center fielder Amanda Carpenter (Santee, Calif./Santana) followed with a double, putting runners at second and third, but a pair of strikeouts ended the inning.
Troy put its first run on the board in the top of the second when a bases loaded fielder's choice from Kelly Luquette plated Taylor Smartt who walked to lead off the frame.
