
Indoor T&F Places Fifth at Bowling Green Challenge

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Behind a first-place effort in the high jump, the Ball State indoor track & field team scored 55 total points to place fifth among seven teams at the Bowling Green Challenge at Perry Fieldhouse.
Western Michigan won the seven-team meet with 151.66 points, followed by Miami (122), host Bowling Green (70.33), Miami (Toledo), Ball State, Wright State (23) and IPFW (9).
The Cardinals' first event victory of the day came in the high jump, as sophomore Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) turned in a leap of 5-7, two inches higher than the second-place finisher.
Senior Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond) tallied a third-place time of 7.82 in the 60m dash and returned in the 200m dash for an eighth-place showing (26.12).
Junior Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) placed fourth in the 600m run with a clocking of 1:40.76, while senior Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) placed third in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.60.
Then, junior MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) placed second in the mile run with a time of 5:06.80, while classmate Madeline Goheen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) placed third in the 5000m run (18:20.61).
The Ball State indoor track & field team returns to action Friday as the squad travels to Bloomington, Ind. for the two-day Gladstine Invitational.
