Ball State first-year head football coach Pete Lembo is in the midst of the first week of Fall Camp in preparation for the Cardinals season opener Sept. 3, vs. Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Ball State will open the season at the home of the National Football League's Indianapolis Colts, who recently signed former Cardinals quarterback Nate Davis as a free agent quarterback.
The Cardinals have spent the first three days of Fall Camp installing the offense and defense, and working on special teams play.
"If you wait until the week before your first game to cover a lot of those little things that might come up once in a course of a season, it's almost like cramming for an exam," Lembo says. "It's too much for a guy to remember and then turn around and execute it in the heat of the battle."
Ball State has worked on situational play in each of the first three practices.
"The entire coaching staff stresses the details," Ball State wide receiver and senior co-captain Briggs Orsbon says. "A blocked field goal is only going to happen once or twice a year, but it's going to win or lose you a game. That's why we worked on it the first night, and hopefully it sticks with everyone throughout the season."
