Ball State athletics media relations student assistant Katie Hawkins is producing regular updates from the football team's practices. Watch "Passing the Mic" featuring defensive backs coach Daryl Dixon.
Coach Dixon is in his third season at Ball State. He spent the 2008 season as a graduate assistant at Illinois before coming to assist the Cardinals.
Coach Dixon earned All-America honors as a defensive back in high school before playing free safety for the Florida Gators. He played in 49 games with 25 starts for Florida and captained the team as a senior. Dixon was a part of six bowl games as a player and coach at Florida and Illinois. He was named Florida's Male Outstanding Senior Leader among the entire student body for the fall of 2003 graduating class. Dixon spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons as a member of the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League.
Ball State opens the season Sept. 3, vs. Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
