Coach Gaither is in his first season at Ball State after spending the 2009 and 2010 seasons as an assistant coach at Elon under the direction of Ball State head coach Pete Lembo.
He coached wide receivers at Elon and tutored Terrell Hudgins, who became the holder of 19 NCAA, Southern Conference or Elon records and finished second in the voting for the 2009 Walter Payton Award, which is awarded to the Football Championship Subdivision Player of the Year.
The Cardinals will open the 2011 season by hosting Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium Sept. 3, at 7 p.m.
After a Sept. 10, game at South Florida, the Cardinals will host Buffalo in a Mid-American Conference match up Sept. 17, at Scheumann Stadium.
