MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State Softball shut out Wright State, 9-0, in five innings Tuesday afternoon at the BSU Softball Complex. With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 25-14 on the season, while the Raiders fall to 18-17.

Junior catcher Amanda Montalto (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) led the Cardinals in the top of the first after she blasted her seventh home run of the season to right center field, driving home seniors Alyssa Collins (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) and Alicia Barkley (Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City), who got on base after two singles.

With one out and freshman Taylor Rager (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) in scoring position due to a double down the right field line and a stolen base, BSU added a fourth run after senior first baseman Kristy Stratton (Paw Paw, Mich./Paw Paw) singled up the middle and drove in Rager.

The hot bats continued in the fourth as four singles from sophomore center fielder Hannah Zimmerman (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial), Barkley, Montalto and Rager, in addition to freshman left fielder Jennifer Gilbert's (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) two-run homer to right center field resulted in the Cardinals taking a 9-0 lead versus their opponent.

BSU kept Wright State at bay into the fifth inning to secure the run rule and win the contest. Junior pitcher Audrey Workman (Wickenburg, Ariz./Wickenburg) had a phenomenal showing for the Cardinals, improving to 8-5 on the season with the win. After 4.0 innings of work, she allowed two hits, while striking out three Raiders batters.

Head coach Craig Nicholson and the team continue league action Friday, April 15 in a doubleheader versus Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
