Scouting Ball State: Ball State enters the Western Michigan contest with a 9-18 overall record and 4-10 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Senior forward Emily Maggert leads the squad, averaging 14.7 points per game, while senior guard Ty'Ronda Benning adds 13.0 points per contest. Freshman guard Brandy Woody led the Cardinals with a career best in scoring at Central Michigan with 13 points.
Scouting Western Michigan: The Broncos will face the Cardinals with an 8-19 overall record and a 4-10 MAC mark. Ball State won the first meeting against the Broncos, 67-60, Jan. 11 in Worthen Arena. WMU is coming off of a 72-70 overtime win at home against Northern Ilinois. Miame Giden was the high scorer of the game for the Broncos with 29 points.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Kelly Packard is in her third season at Ball State . . . Packard's overall record at Ball State is 49-44 (.526), while her Mid-American Conference mark is 25-21. . . Tasha McDowell is in her third season at Western Michigan. . . McDowell's overall record at Western Michigan is 24-62 and owns a MAC record of 11-34.
The Series: Ball State went 3-0 against the Broncos last season, winning at home by a score of 70-55, at WMU (78-62) and then again in the first round of the MAC Tournament (67-43). This is the 66th meeting between Ball State and Western Michigan . . . The Cardinals lead the all-time series record 33-32 . . . Ball State has won eight in row against the Broncos since the 2007-08 season.
Packard Embarking on 50 wins: Head Coach Kelly Packard has earned 49 career victories at Ball State in three seasons (2008-present). With a win over Western Michigan Saturday, Packard could get win number 50, which makes her the only other coach besides Tracy Roller (2001-04) to earn 50 victories in three seasons.
