
Womens Basketball Loses 81-66 at Central Michigan

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Ball State University women's basketball team fell 81-66 at Central Michigan Wednesday night at the newly renovated McGuirk Arena. With the loss the Cardinals drop to 9-18 overall and 4-10 in Mid-American Conference while CMU improves to 18-8 and 10-4 in MAC action.
Despite the loss Ball State had one of its best rebounding performances as it outrebounded CMU 48-to-29. Senior forward Emily Maggert led the way defensively after pulling down 14 boards.
Central Michigan carried on its momentum into the second half, the closest Ball State got was after free throws from senior guard Ty'Ronda Benning to bring the Cardinals within seven (59-52) with 9:48 remaining in the contest.
The Cardinals were led by freshman guard Brandy Woody who chipped in 13 points on the night while Benning added 11 points and senior forward Emily Maggert ended the game with nine.
The Chippewas had four players in double figures which was led by Shonda Long after putting up 18 points.
Ball State trailed the entire first half with the Chippewas largest lead being nine (32-23) with 4:17 remaining.
The Cardinals managed to cut it to six (32-26) at the 1:02 mark after a layup from freshman forward Jazmine Hitchens. CMU would score one more basket heading into intermission up 34-26 over the Cardinals.
The Ball State University women's basketball team continues MAC action on the road as it heads to Western Michigan Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff at University Arena.
