Scouting Ball State: Ball State enters the Eastern Michigan contest with a 9-15 overall record and 4-7 mark in the Mid-American Conference. The Cardinals have dropped their last four contests Buffalo (77-61), Ohio (68-59), Bowling Green (61-46) and Akron (78-65). Senior forward Emily Maggert leads the squad, averaging 15.5 points per game ,while senior guard Ty'Ronda Benning adds 12.9 points per contest. The game against Eastern Michigan marks the second round of competition against MAC West Division opponents. BSU owns a 4-1 record in league action at home this season.
Scouting Eastern Michigan: The Eagles will face the Cardinals with a 16-9 overall record and a 7-4 MAC stand. EMU is coming off of a hard fought battle when it lost to Bowling Green 60-55 at home Saturday. With the loss the Eagles now have dropped two games in a row after falling to Buffalo 70-68 at home Feb. 5. Eastern Michigan tends to play well on the road with a 7-2 record. Tavelyn James leads EMU with 17.1 points per game.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Kelly Packard is in her third season at Ball State . . . Packard's overall record at Ball State is 49-41 (.544), while her Mid-American Conference mark is 25-18. . . AnnMarie Gilbert is in her fourth season at Eastern Michigan. . . Gilbert's overall record at EMU is 63-51 and she owns a MAC record of 33-26.
The Series: This is the 62nd meeting between Ball State and Eastern Michigan . . . The Eagles lead the all-time series 34-27. . . The two schools' last meeting resulted in a 70-62 loss for Ball State January 8 at the Convocation Center. The last time Ball State defeated EMU at home was Jan. 4, 2009 by a score of 62-55.
Packard Embarking on 50 wins: Head Coach Kelly Packard has earned 49 career victories at Ball State in three seasons (2008-present). With a win over, Eastern Michigan Wednesday, Packard could get win number 50, which makes her the only other coach besides Tracy Roller (2001-04) to earn 50 victories in three seasons.
