
WBB Claims 59-55 Victory Over Austin Peay Sunday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team improved its overall record to 5-5 Sunday afternoon after posting a 59-55 victory over Austin Peay (2-8) in Worthen Arena.
Freshman guard Brittany Carter led the Cardinals with 17 points with a 4-of-6 shooting effort from behind the three point arc. Senior forward and co-captain Suzanne Grossnickle recorded her first double-double of the season with a 14-point, 11-rebound performance.
The Cardinals led the entire second half but Austin Peay managed to put together a 9-0 run in the last minutes of the game making it a 57-55 ball game with 11 seconds on the clock. The Governors had the chance to tie or win the ball game but the Cardinals defense caused the Governors to turn the ball over which led them to foul junior guard Mercedes Miller. Miller hit both of her free throws to secure the victory for Ball State.
Both teams traded baskets at the start of the second half, the game was knotted at 39-39 at the 14:20 mark before sophomore guard Jordan Huber knocked down a three pointer, which sparked a 10-0 run to give Ball State a 10-point (49-39) advantage over Austin Peay with 11:36 left to play.
The Governors biggest lead in the first half was 19-12 at the 10:30 mark but Ball State rallied back to tie the game at 21-21 after baskets from Carter, Justice and Grossnickle. After five lead changes and two ties the Cardinals had managed to take a 34-27 advantage at the 1:18 mark. Ball State would end the half up 34-29 over the Governors.
