Scouting Ball State: The Ball State women's basketball team enters Sunday's contest after suffering a 55-43 loss to in-state rival Butler Friday night in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. Freshman guard Shelbie Justice led the Cardinals in scoring after recording a personal best nine points while teammates senior forward and co-captain Suzanne Grossnickle and junior guard Mercedes Miller each chipped in seven points respectively. Ball State's last game played at Worthen Arena resulted in a 78-73 double overtime victory for the Cardinals.
Scouting Austin Peay: The Governors opened the season with two straight wins but they come to Ball State Sunday on a seven game losing streak. Austin Peay has not won a game since November 14 at Lipscomb by a score of 61-58. Recently the Governors lost to fellow Mid-American Conference school Bowling Green Friday night, 72-38. Austin Peay is led by Whitney Hanley who is averaging 15.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Kelly Packard is in her fourth season at Ball State . . . Packard's overall record at Ball State is 53-52 (.504), while her Mid-American Conference mark is 25-24 . . . Carrie Daniels is in her sixth year as Austin Peay's head coach . . . Daniels owns a 65-102 career record at Austin Peay . . . A native of Indiana, Daniels played at Scottsburg High School where she earned All-America recognition from Women's Basketball News Service after averaging 17 points, 6.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game as a senior.
The Series: The Cardinals return home to Worthen Arena Sunday as they take on Austin Peay . . . Sunday's game is only the second meeting all-time between Ball State and Austin Peay . . . Ball State leads the all-time series record 1-0 . . . The Cardinals won their last meeting over the Lady Govs 68-59 at a neutral site in 2007-08.
