November 09, 2011 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Nicole Bell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill H.S.), Taylor Miller (Hope, Indiana/Hauser H.S.), Jocelyn Mousty (Fredericksburg, Indiana/Eastern H.S.) and Alex Southworth (Piketon, Ohio/ Piketon H.S.) have each signed national letters of intent to attend Ball State University and compete for the women's basketball program, according to head coach, Kelly Packard.
"I am pleased to welcome these four talented young women to our program," said Packard. "Nicole, Taylor, Jocelyn, and Alex have earned significant respect in the Midwest region, and their choice to share their collegiate career at Ball State University is a compliment to our program."
Bell, a 5-3, point guard, averaged 19.0 points per game and 4.9 assists as a junior, earning Player of the Year in the Cincinnati Hills League. She was a first team all-city selection while earning second team all-state and first team all-southwest district honors. Bell has helped her team over the last three seasons to an overall combined record of 64-7. She is a senior at Indian Hill High School and has helped guide her team to back-to-back sectional championships. Bell is coached by David Marshall.
"Nicole Bell is a pure point guard," said Packard. "Her leadership, aptitude for the game, and relentless competitive spirit are the foundation for her basketball success. Nicole's poise and composure allow her to provide structure to the floor. Her strong aptitude for the game is reflected in the maturity of her pressured decision making."
Miller, a 5-6, guard, averaged 24.0 points per game as a junior, earning all-conference MVP honors for three straight seasons. She scored a season high 33 points in a 71-63 victory over Southwestern (Shelbyville) on Feb. 3, 2011. Miller recorded four double-doubles last season while scoring in double figures in every contest as a junior at Hauser High School. She is coached by Scott Seiple and is a member of the Indy Gym Rats AAU club team who won the state championship this summer.
"Taylor Miller is a scoring guard. She is creative, explosive, and possesses strong ball handling abilities," said Packard. "Taylor is expressive, tough-nosed, and her competitiveness is contagious. Her ability to finish with contact highlights her scoring abilities."
Mousty, a 6-3 forward, averaged 17.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game as a junior, earning all-conference and MVP honors for two straight seasons. She was a member of the Indiana Junior All-Star team, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds against the 2011 Indiana All-Stars. Last season, Mousty recorded 18 double-doubles and topped her season off with a 26 point, 14 rebound performance against Paoli. Mousty is a senior at Eastern (Pekin) High School and is coached by Mike McBride.
"Jocelyn Mousty has elite athleticism. Her 6'3'' frame is agile and strong," said Packard. "Her skills display a balance of strength conducive to paint play, particularly rebounding. She compliments that style of play with the ability to run the floor in transition, and can stretch the defense with her 3-point range."
Southworth, a 6-1, guard/forward, averaged 13.1 points per game as a junior, earning first team all-conference honors. She led her conference in assists and was second in the conference in total rebounds. Southworth is a two-time all-conference and all-state honoree. She is a senior at Piketon High School and is coached by Brett Coreno.
"Alex Southworth has great versatility," said Packard. "She has a unique blend of size and strong perimeter abilities. At 6'1'', Alex is comfortable handling the ball against pressure, and stretches her range to the 3-point arc."
