Scouting Ball State: The Ball State women's basketball team is coming off of a 55-50 victory over in-state rival Evansville Tuesday night at the Ford Center. With the win the Cardinals have evened their overall record to 3-3 on the season. For the third time this season Ball State was led offensively by sophomore forward Jazmin Hitchens who tallied 11 points for the game while defensively Katie Murphy brought down a personal best 12 rebounds.
Scouting Detroit Mercy: The Titans enter Thursday's game with an overall record of 0-6. Although Detroit is winless their contests have been close in scoring, losing to Indiana State by two (62-64), Drexel (61-56), Howard (60-58), Bowling Green (57-49), Utah (64-55) and UTSA (59-55). The Titans are led by Shareta Brown who averages a double-double with 17.2 points per game and 10.0 rebounds. Chanahl Putnam also is averaging double figures in scoring with 11.5 ppg. Detroit Mercy is a member of the Horizon League.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Kelly Packard is in her fourth season at Ball State . . . Packard's overall record at Ball State is 52-50 (.509), while her Mid-American Conference mark is 25-24 . . . Detroit Mercy's head coach Autumn Rademacher is in her fourth season with the Titans . . . Rademacher was the 2010 Horizon League Coach of the Year . . . Her overall record at Detroit is 42-57 (.424), while her Horizon League record is 27-27. Rademacher is familiar with the MAC as she was an assistant coach at Western Michigan for seven years under former Broncos head coach Ron Stewart.
The Series: The Cardinals return to Worthen Arena Thursday, Dec. 1, as they host Detroit Mercy . . . This is the fourth meeting all-time between Ball State and Detroit Mercy . . . The Titans lead the all-time series record over the Cardinals 2-1 . . . This marks the second team of four the Cardinals will face from the Horizon league this season . . . Detroit Mercy won its last meeting over the Cardinals last season by a score of 78-60 at Calihan Hall . . . Ball State last defeated Detroit Mercy 71-66 in Detroit in 1987-88.
