
Men?s S&D Captures Second at Doug Coers Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team tallied a second-place finish in the 2011 Doug Coers Invitational after recording 553.5 points during the two-day event at Lewellen Aquatic Center, featuring five teams.
Grand Valley State University finished first with 753.5 points, Lewis University in third (248), followed by the University of Findlay (187) and Valparaiso University (184).
Ball State tallied its first victory in the second event, the 200 freestyle relay. Junior Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and seniors Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester), Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial) combined to post the first-place win at 1:25.83.
Schroeder then returned in the 50 freestyle, as the computer technology major clocked in at 21.84, and Krupa secure Ball State's fourth event victory of the meet in the 100 fly (52.02).
McNeeley followed with a first-place performance in the 100 breast (59.11), tying with Milan Medo of Grand Valley State, before capturing a first-place win in the 200 breast (2:10.01).
Senior Jake Brehmer (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) turned in a phenomenal performance on the diving boards as he captured first place on the 3-meter (213.45), in addition to tallying a victory on the 1-meter (233.60).
The Cardinals closed the competition with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay, as Weber, McNeeley, Krupa and Schroeder combined to clock in at 3:10.50.
The Cardinals returns to MAC action at the Eastern Michigan Invitational. The two-day event begins at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2 and begins again at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
