
Offense Rolls As Volleyball Sweeps Kent State

KENT, Ohio - - Behind a season-best .390 (39-9-77) team hitting effort, the Ball State women's volleyball team made short work of Kent State Saturday evening, scoring a 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-15) sweep of the Golden Flashes at the M.A.C. Center.
The Cardinals improve to 18-3 (7-1 MAC) with the win, with the record being the best through the first 21-matches in program history, topping the previous mark of 17-4 set by the 1973, 1974, 1993, 2000 and 2010 squads. Kent State falls to 8-15 (1-7 MAC) with the loss.
The Cardinals never trailed in the first two sets, while only trailing once in the third set. In the third frame, BSU was down 3-1 before rattling off the next six points to pull ahead for good.
Sophomore outside hitter Kylee Baker led all players with a match-high nine kills, while recording a season-high .562 (9-0-16) hitting percentage. She also collected nine digs, two block assists and a match-best three services aces.
Sophomore Jacqui Seidel set the Ball State offense to its best hitting mark of the season by handing out 28 assists. She fell just shy of her third career double-double with nine digs.
Sophomore transfer right side hitter Lauren Grant also turned in a strong effort from the attack line, recording a career-high eight kills and a .462 (8-2-13) hitting effort. Sophomore outside hitter Whitney Heeres also added eight kills, while senior middle blockers Kelsey Brandl and Jennifer Boyd collected six kills apiece.
Defensively, the Cardinals limited KSU to a .032 (25-22-93) team hitting mark, including a -.138 (6-10-29) rate of success in the second frame. Sophomore libero Catie Fredrich paced all players with 15 digs.
Kent State was led offensively by Tin Aderemi-Ibitola and Kathy Krupa who posted seven kills each. Bridget Grdina added a team-high eight digs.
In addition to dominating the Golden Flashes on offense, BSU held a 41-25 edge in team digs, while out-blocking KSU 6-3. Ball State also recorded a 6-2 advantage in service aces.
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to Worthen Arena for a pair of matches next weekend, as they host Miami (Friday) and Bowling Green (Saturday). Both matches start at 7 p.m. and will be webcasted live by Ball State Sports Link.
In addition, Saturday's match versus Bowling Green will be Ball State's Dig Pink Match. BSU will be selling $1 pink bracelets at the match with proceeds going to the Side-Out Foundation.
